Why should we Detox/Cleanse?

TO CLEANSE OR NOT TO CLEANSE? 
This is another very common question that I am asked.
My answer is always ….. YES!!!! 1 to 2 times a year as the seasons change.

WHY CLEANSE?
Our body has 3 major routes of elimination, respiration, skin and bowels/ bladder. There are ore than 80, 000 harmful chemicals in the form of pesticides, fertilizers, synthetic additives and environmental pollutants than have the potential of assaulting your body every day. These poisons are found in our homes, the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water that we drink , the fabrics that we clothe ourselves in, and the products that we put in our skin. Imagine what these poisons are doing to your body??

WHAT ARE THE BEST CLEANSES?
You should find a cleanse that is 14 to 21 days long. The liver is the major detoxifier of our body.  It requires 7 days for sulfonication and 7 days for hydroxylacation to properly get the body to eliminate toxins.
Your cleanse should require a bland diet, light exercise and adequate amounts of rest. Never start a cleanse when you know that life is going to be stressful. A cleanse is meant to rest you rest your body not to stress it out.

May favorite cleanse is the 21 Day Purification program by Standard Process and Truestar Detox & Cleanse.  My second favorite is the NutriClear program by Biotic.

I know that there are many options but just make sure that the products are a pharmaceutical grade and offers a protocol program……

RULES TO EATING A DETOX DIET

Each day drink half of your bodies weight in ounces in filtered or purified water.

AVOID THE FOLLOWING:  detoxifying detractors

• Excess fat, especially from margarine and processed and fried foods

• Sugar and all of its relatives, high fructose corn sugar, honey, molasses, maple syrup, evaporated cane juice, dried cane juice, cakes, cookies, pies, desserts, all products ending in “-ose” ( sucrose, dextrose, fructose….)

• Artificial sweeteners, aspartame, Sucralose, Splenda, Nutra sweet, xylitol, sorbitol….

• Refinded carbohydrates, all products made from white flour

• Gluten, found in wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, kamut, and off the their products ( including breads, pastas, crackers, pancakes, waffles, cookies and crusts).

• Soy protein isolates found in low carb “energy “ bars and soy protein powders: and processed soy foods ( soy milk, soy cheese, soy hot dogs and burgers, soy ice cream…….

• Alcohol & over the counter drugs and caffeine, including coffee, tea, soda and chocolate

• Milk and Cheese, including ice cream, half-and-half, any food made with milk or cheese

FOOD TO EAT DAILY: body detoxifiers helpers

•The crucifers veggies; (1 cup raw or 12/c cup cooked) cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, broccoli sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, lentil sprouts

•Green leafy and herbs;(1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked) parsley, kale watercress, chard, cilantro, beet greens, collard mustard greens, dandelion greens

•Citrus : 1 orange, 1/2 juice of lemon or lime

•sulfur-rich foods: garlic, onion, eggs, radish

•Liver healers; artichoke, asparagus, beets, celery, dandelion root tea, whey, nutritional yeast flakes

•Colon caring foods; ( choose 2 daily) milled or ground flax seed (2-3 TBS), phyllium husk (1-2 tsp), carrot (raw), apple ( with skin), pear ( with skin), berries ( 1 cup)

•Protein; ( at least 2 serving the size of the palm of your hand) lean beef, veal, skinless turkey or chicken, fish, lamb

•Oils/fats; ( atleast 2 TBS daily) olive oil, flaxseed oil, black currents seed oil)

Nutritional protocol for a Detoxification Diet

Continue to take all medications prescribed by your physician.
Follow the rules to eating a detox diet.

Water, Water, Water!!

Take 1 of the TrueBASICS (Men’s,Women’s, A/O, Yoga or Lean Extreme). If you losing more than 5-7 pounds per week then increase the TrueBASIC to 2 packets a day. With rapid weight loss your are losing good minerals along with the bad and you want to replenish them.

Grilled chicken and carrots with Mixed Green salad

Great healthy recipe for lunch or dinner. The is a single serving (approx 400 calories). So double or triple the recipe if you are morning more or  want leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Raw boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 1/2 cup Boiled carrots
  • 2 tsp Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3/4 cup Cooked long grain brown rice

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill and grill chicken until fully cooked.
  2. Serve with carrots and rice.
  3. Drizzle the chicken and carrots with olive oil.
  4. 2 cups mixed green salad with 2 Tbs. low fat Zesty Italian dressing or a balsamic vinaigrette.

GRILLED CHICKEN, BROCCOLI AND BROWN RICE

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Cooked brown basmati rice (Fantastic Foods)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat grill and grill chicken until fully cooked.
  2. Serve with broccoli and brown rice.
  3. Drizzle the chicken and broccoli with olive oil.

Snack CUCUMBER SANDWICH

Approx 200 calories. This is a great mid morning and mid afternoon snack:)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup Cucumber, with peel
    1/2 avocado(s) Avocado
    6 cherry(ies) Red cherry tomato
    1/4 fruit(s) Lime
    1/4 tsp Sea salt
    1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper (Spice Islands)
    1 tbsp Fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Buy one cucumber(ignore 2cup measurement).  Wash and Peel the cucumber if desired.
  2. Cut cucumber lengthwise, in half. You now have two long “boats”. With a spoon, scoop out the inner (soft) part of the cucumber.
  3. Put all other ingredients in a bowl. Mix gently.
  4. Fill the inner part of the cucumber with the avocado mixture.
  5. Eat as “boats” or put the other (empty) half of the cucumber on top of the filled one to make a sandwich.

Strawberry and Green Smoothie

This is a fabulous smoothie to start your day with or after a workout! Super refreshing and well balanced!!

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups fresh spinach, washed
  • 3/4 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
  • ½ cup bananas, peeled, frozen
  • 1oz (30.3grams) TrueStrength (Truestar/drheather) Protein Powder

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients into the Vitamix or blender container in the order listed and secure lid.
  2. Select Variable 1.
  3. Turn machine on and quickly increase speed to Variable 10, then to high.
  4. Blend for 1 minute or until desired consistency is reached and ENJOY!
